Oh how our little ones grow up so quickly! We celebrated Ella's transition to kindergarten with orange slushies and chocolate chip cookies today. We sure will miss having her here with us but wish her the best! Check out Mr. Klayden who tried out a cot with his big friends and did awesome! The children were pretty pumped up as we began learning about wolves today. They had fun stamping this morning and then making yarn art this afternoon. During down time Owen got creative with Little People and Leightyn enjoyed some dress up time with me..
Today was just an all around great Friday! We had lots of fun doing all sorts of outdoor summer activites. The children made beautiful sidewalk art with wet chalk. If you have never drawn with wet chalk, you should try it. It acts as a totally different medium which I prefer to dry chalk. Owen loves snuggling with Adelyn in the swing.Today he asked her to join him and he wrapped both of them in his blankie- very cute!
Today was officially Alex's last day. We will miss having him. He was a fun addition to our group this summer and we wish him all the best in kindergarten!
Today we welcomed Caleb to our barrel of monkeys! He's lots of fun and we all had a great day! The children had some sprinkler time this morning to try and beat the heat. During indoor play, Klayden stacked this awesome tower all by himself! This is very impressive since these pegs are wobbly and take some balancing work. Alex is heading off to kindergarten so we had a party this afternoon to say good-bye and best wishes!
Adelyn enjoyed the sandbox at the park today and played for several minutes without eating any! The group made some beautiful night sky paintings that will be on display in the daycare. We studied the moon and it's phases today.
We have began studying outer space this week. Owen was very excited to look at al lthe new books we have out on the subject. Little Miss Adelyn sure is making her way around and getting into mischief. Here she is stealing a marker from the art table. Ella and Owen played Cariboo this afternoon.
We've been studying river life this week. Today we learned about beavers and the remarkable lodges they build. The children had fun building a lodge on the floor using blankets and our circle time furniture. There was a lot of interesting beaver chat. During outside play today, Ella, Owen and Leightyn found a Tiger mouth that they wanted to observe for a while in the bug catcher. Adelyn surprisingly figured out how to blow a whistle while the other children were resting (of all times!). Leightyn has been bonding a lot with Adelyn. Here they are playing with the magnetic blocks. The children did a wonderful job taking their time and painting ceramic animals during art time today.
It's a great day anytime we have major vehicles on the cove! The children were very excited to see the street sweeper today! Adelyn really likes the Little People Talking Zoo. Her and I have been working on animal sounds which she thinks is hilarious.
The children built a wonderful pirate ship today using the waffle blocks. It is so cute to listen to them talk in their pirate voices...we have Irish pirates, Australian pirates, Cave man pirates, British Pirates...very adorable! Klayden has been very interested in building with blocks as of lately, constructing all sorts of large towers. He'll sit for longer periods of time and put a great deal of thoughts into his creations.
Playing Pirates, ships and sharks has been the imaginary play of the week. Today Ella and Owen dressed in pirate garb for much of the day, eye patches and all. They realized that only having one eye makes things such as eating and walking more difficult. When they were not sailing the ocean blue, they were having fun out in the pool. Adelyn was really enjoying the ladder on the fire truck today. She loved figuring out how it extends and swivels. I wish she wouldn't grow up so fast!
We took a lovely nature walk along the prairie at the edge of the neighborhood today. We looked at various flowers, seed pods and insects we found a long the way and talked about how the prairie has changed since the beginning of summer.
I love little Miss Ella and how she is never afraid to touch anything. She picked up this beetle to show the rest of the group and they all were afraid to even look at it. I'm sure going to miss her in a few weeks when she starts kindergarten! We've been working on identifying left and right. Here are the children below sharing which way they thought was left based on the little tricks we taught ourselves. I thought it was adorable how Jackson put his fingers up in both directions! You can't go wrong then! Adelyn has been starting to get herself into mischief. Here she is pulling the roll of art paper off the table. She was so proud when she did it too. The children had fun playing outside all morning. In the afternoon they worked hard cutting and gluing adorable owl puppets that will be on display in the playroom for a while.
The children had fun at the park this morning. Jackson and Owen were really excited to see the large lawn tractors mowing the park. Alex and Jackson worked hard to improve their skills on the monkey bars. Klayden had fun building a sand castle with me.
At home during afternoon free-time, Owen was being silly and built a Police Mr. Potato Head with many arms. Adelyn had some fun experimenting with the Bosu today. We are continuing our studies of nocturnal animals this week and specifically learned about Opossums today. During morning free time Alex enjoyed coloring and Owen built a bus. Adelyn snuggled in our beanbag chair while the big kids rested today. She was incredibly smiley.
