We had fun jammin' out on some new musical instruments that we're borrowing from the public library this week. They came with some really great books to play along to. The triangle was a favorite with everyone today. C is our letter of the week! The children liked our sensory bin full of corn and farm fun and played for a large portion of free time this morning. Becker was loving the sandbox digger during outside time today. Adelyn found some some dried leaves in our fall sensory bin from last week. She was really interested in the sound the leaves made when waved around and how she could make them fall apart when she waved them hard.
Playing soccer with the children today was a hoot! Everyone picked up on the general rules quickly and they were surprisingly a little competitive. Leightyn has a great foot on her! Here is Caleb creating his B is for bumblebee!
Beep, beep, beep! Big load coming though! Playing trucks was huge before breakfast today. We spent the late morning on a nature walk in the prairie looking for a few milkweed pods to look at as a group. After snack this afternoon, the children built patterns with geo blocks. We continued our studies of the fall season with some leaf rubbings.
The children started the morning off with trains. Owen has been putting a lot of effort into designing his own routes. Adelyn spent some time with Becker this morning and bonded over the trucks. She watched him very intently and attempted to imitate his play. The crew ate lima beans with lunch today. Adelyn's face says it all! She actually liked them, but no one else did. Owen was really excited about a book player we checked out from the library that included some of our favorite songs on it. B is our letter of the week. Here's Becker working on his B is for bumblebee. Klayden spent some time this afternoon making some pattern art pushing geo blocks into wheat dough.
We welcomed our new friend, Becker to the daycare today! He's a sweet little guy and we're excited he's here! This beautiful morning started off with a great nature walk to collect fall finds for our sensory box. We stopped off at the park on the way back where Adelyn checked out the world from a whole new perspective. She's so silly! Jackson was really pumped about finding a huge worm while building in the sand. Adelyn was pretty proud of a rock she found too! Owen and I played a few rounds of Don't Spill the Beans this afternoon. I love how young children have more fun spilling the beans.
... Leightyn, Klayden and Owen were so creative this morning. They were playing pretend camping. They took the train tracks from one bucket to build the fire. They asked for the tent and set it up all by themselves. They then went to the play kitchen and loaded up on their food supply. I heard some the cutest statements. Owen said "I'm the only one who can touch the fire cause I'm the daddy and cause I have special boots on." Leightyn said "Lets cook marshmallows like my mama. I'll get the poker. It is VERY sharp so be careful. You could get oweys." Owen's reply to this was, "Okay Honey!" Klayden played trucks inside the tent and helped Owen build the camp fire.
Owen and Leightyn were really interested in building with the Duplo blocks before lunch. They were really proud and asked to take pictures of their creations. I promised I would post them on the blog for everyone to see! We had time for a short walk and trip to the park near by before rest time. Owen and Leightyn noticed signs of fall on our walk. They found a few nuts and colored leaves. Adelyn is getting better with playing in the sand versus eating it. She likes rubbing it between her hands and on her legs. Klayden was into building castles with me today. Yet another picture of silly Addie in the swing! I had to photograph the aftermath of Klayden eating peanut butter with snack however the picture just doesn't do it justice. He had peanut butter all over his arms, shirt, shorts, legs, and socks. Silly dude! Look at the new favorite way to travel the slide! The children enjoyed this all day. I saw them calling friends to join them anytime they wanted to go down and I don't think a single person flew solo all afternoon. The group had fun apple stamping during art time. We discussed the parts of the apple and the various colors they turn in the fall. Klayden did some really nice finger painting with the left over paint too. Adelyn has been really interested in the cars and trucks the past few days. She pushes them around and then picks them up and looks at the wheels, making sense of how they work.
The children had the chance to be a little squirrely in the sensory box this morning as they dug for acorns. We used the acorns for our math activity today. Here is Caleb finishing up his apply guy puppet. Klayden's getting ready to be a big brother and practicing his stroller pushing skills. Adelyn has taken on a new love-for motorcycles!
Don't let that cute, little innocent face fool you! Adelyn was caught trouble making in the kitchen and then this was the reaction I got when I confronted her on it. Klayden was super smiley today. Here's the happy man swinging at the park! His talking is growing so much every day. He blew my socks off with "Big push please!" Caleb and Owen were both big builders today. I love their creativity.
Somehow Adelyn has figured out how to get up on the Zebra! Once she's sitting on it there is no way for her to touch the ground but nonetheless, she did it! Jackson and Owen (with a little help from Adelyn) worked on a puzzle game that involved matching colors, textures and designs. They had fun making and then playing with apple guy puppets this afternoon. I had planned on studying apples a little later in the season but we are going to do it this week given that we have a ton right now. As a result, it only makes sense to continue our study of the letter A and start B next week!
Leightyn's birthday is next Monday and since we will not see her, we celebrated today! Thank you to Leightyn and her family for bringing in delicious rice crispy treats decorated with a Frozen (the movie) theme. Happy 3rd Birthday Leightyn!
With all the traveling that Adelyn's been doing around the daycare, she has never made it over to the refrigerator until today and boy was she excited to find the Leapfrog singing barn and alphabet set! Leightyn, Caleb and Klayden were excellent muffin makers this morning! We loaded our muffins with tons of berries and named them Super Berry Muffins. They were delicious! Adelyn has been starting to take dolly for walks in straight lines. Once she runs into something, she needs help moving the stroller. Owen was at preschool this morning and I wasn't able to catch a picture of him during our busy afternoon so here is one from yesterday of him sitting nicely for a mugshot (aka new mailbox photo).
Today was such a gloomy day so in an efforts to bring out the sun, the children made beautiful sun catchers. P,lease visit the windows of the daycare to see what wonderful art they made. Leightyn finished up her furry doggy today and they are all the on display in the daycare. Owen was quite the builder today. Here he is building a train. I love how Jackson has turned the railings of the loft into railroads and highways. I find him up here a lot during free time deep in imaginary play. I often times do not show the children my thoughts on how I think they should play with the materials in out sensory tube. The last few weeks the tub has been full of rings cut from pool noodles, ropes and tongs. Today the sensory table turned into a doughnut making shop. Owen and Jackson pulled the donuts out of the hot fryer with the tongs and sorted them into piles, primarily based on color or flavor. What creative little dudes! Caleb really enjoyed our animal waffles today for lunch. Here he is making his lion roar. (YES, we do play with our food here!) Adelyn had her first waffle today too and loved it! I had to add this picture of Klayden in leg warmers--cutie pie!
Our "letter of the week" this week is A. During art time today, Caleb worked on his A is for Alligator sign and Klayden colored in his apple guy puppet. We'll be completing a letter each week until we are through the alphabet. We are working on letter identification and sounds. During free time today, Owen and Caleb had a fun and creative time dressing the magnetic dolls. This afternoon we continued our learning of pets from last week. We read about fish and discussed how to take care of them.
The boys helped me make wheat dough to play with today. Similar to Playdoh but grainier, it gives a whole different medium to mold and build with. Jackson, Owen, and I played a fun number game today that worked on number identification. It has become a new favorite and we played several rounds. Look who's standing all by herself!
We pulled out the tents and tunnels today. Owen and Klayden had fun playing camping during free time this morning. Things got silly once we added the tunnels on. Klayden and Adelyn loved me chasing them through the tubs. Owen took some time out this afternoon to build some creative structures with Geo blocks. We read about fish today and sang a new silly fish song.
These guys sure were busy today! If the children weren't building with the waffle blocks, they were on to Legos, bristle or cardboard bricks. Lots of creative brain work! Adelyn had fun checking out all the various textures in the dress up area. Caleb got a great start on his yarn pup. They are turning out wonderfully and can't wait to hang them up!
Look at these 3 little hooligans! They thought they were being so sneaky hiding out behind the pine tree stealing raspberries! Some of the kids started making furry yarn puppies during art time today and we'll finish them up throughout the week. We read about cats today and played a cat and dog tag game.
Our theme this week is pets and we started to learn about the responsibilities of owning a pet and then focused a little on man's best friend today. We had a small group today so we went over to the park for a bit. Klayden sang the ABC's with me today while swinging. Owen built a super awesome rocket ship with the waffle blocks almost entirely by himself. I was a very proud mama. Adelyn's new favorite spot is up on the loft. She likes to drop and watch toys fall from way up there. It's twice as cool as throwing stuff off her high chair!
